INSTITUTIONAL DEVELOPMENT AND STRENGTHENING

INSTITUTIONAL DEVELOPMENT AND STRENGTHENING

Institutional development strengthens an institution’s capacity and processes, improving internal structures for better coordination. In Uganda, agricultural cooperatives are largely male-dominated, with men in key decision-making roles. Despite women’s significant contributions to economic growth, their participation in cooperative development remains limited due to historical governance structures. Research shows that women in leadership bring stronger social commitment and participatory management, leading to better outcomes. Cooperatives provide a platform for women to develop leadership skills. eWofanet will therefore support and promote women-led cooperatives and build gender-responsive institutions, empowering and encouraging women to take active roles, access resources, increase income, and strengthen their positions in value chains
